We make Cheeko, so of course we're biased. Here's the comparison we'd want anyway, as parents. No brand-bashing, no cherry-picking. Just the four kinds of things you're actually choosing between for a child aged 3–10, including where we lose.
Cheeko is not screen-free. It has a small screen that shows a story picture and then stops. No video, no feed, no autoplay. We'd rather tell you that on the first scroll than have you find out at the unboxing.
| A tablet | A plain audio story box | A talking toy without AI | Cheeko | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Video and feeds | Endless | None | None | Never, pictures only |
| Talks back and remembers your child | Apps talk at them | No | Same lines every time | Yes, across sessions |
| Indian languages | Barely | Rarely | One or two, pre-recorded | English and 10+ Indian languages |
| Works offline | Partly | Yes | Yes | Cards & games yes; Talk needs Wi-Fi |
| Ads and in-app purchases | Everywhere | None | None | Never |
| Mic behaviour | Depends on each app | Usually no mic | Sometimes always-on | Only while the button is pressed |
| Grows with your child, 3–10 | Grows into the wrong things | Often outgrown around 6 | Outgrown in months | Levels up from 3 to 10 |
| Price ballpark | ₹12,000–30,000, then apps keep charging | ₹4,000–12,000, plus every story you add | ₹1,500–4,000 | ₹5,999 once · cards ₹199–299, optional |
Full price honesty: Cheeko is ₹5,999 paid once at checkout with free delivery. Cards are ₹199–299 each and optional. Talk + Imagine are free for 3 months, then an optional plan. Price shown in the parent app first. Think a row is unfair? Argue with us on WhatsApp. A human replies.
Then a plain audio-only story box is the honest choice, not Cheeko. Our screen shows a still picture and stops, but it is a screen. If your family rule is no pixels at all, respect. Buy the box.
Cheeko is built for ages 3–10. Under 3, kids need faces, floors and hands, not devices, ours included. Wait for the third birthday; Cheeko will still be here.
A card downloads once on Wi-Fi, then plays offline forever. But that first download does need Wi-Fi: a home network, a hotspot, a relative's house, anything. Truly zero Wi-Fi, ever? New cards can't load.
The AI characters remember your child across sessions: yesterday's quiz, last week's story. A tablet app forgets. A story box never knew.
English + 10 Indian languages: Hindi, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Bengali, Gujarati, Punjabi, Malayalam, Odia. One card, one language.
A card downloads once on Wi-Fi, then plays offline forever: car, flight, power cut, village. No leash to the router.
The parent app, on iPhone and Android, shows every question asked and every play count. Push-to-talk mic, no camera, child-safety filters on every answer.
